The Adventure Stay Hut and Its Setting
The Adventure Stay hut sits in a quiet, off-grid spot on a sheltered hill just west of the Mýrdalsjökull Base Camp, at the foot of Mýrdalsjökull glacier on Iceland's South Coast. It can only be reached with a guide, by buggy across the black sands of Sólheimasandur.
From the hut you look out over the black-sand plains, the Atlantic Ocean and the Vestmannaeyjar islands, with Eyjafjallajökull glacier to the west. The glass walls and ceiling make it a rare place to watch the stars and, in the darker months, the Northern Lights.
Getting there and what's nearby
The journey is part of the stay. Guests meet at the Mýrdalsjökull Base Camp and ride out by buggy to the Sólheimasandur plane wreck before being dropped at the hut for the night. The nearest village is Vík, and the area is also a base for glacier walks on Sólheimajökull.
Spend the night
The hut is the overnight side of the Adventure Stay experience: a private hut for two with a real bed, heating, a kitchenette and a dry toilet. It is fully off-grid, yet only a few minutes from base-camp staff, with a full safety plan in place for the area.
