Our Credentials

Every licence, certification and membership on this page is issued or audited by an independent body. Together, they show that the tours you book with Icelandia and its brands are run legally, safely and with care for Iceland's nature.

Licensed Travel Agency and Tour Operator

Icelandia operates under travel agency licence no. 2010-020, issued by the Icelandic Tourist Board (Ferðamálastofa) to Ferðaskrifstofa Icelandia ehf. in September 2010. The licence covers Icelandia and its brands, including Reykjavík Excursions, Icelandic Mountain Guides, Flybus and DIVE.IS. You can verify it on the Icelandic Tourist Board's register of licensed travel agencies.

Vakinn Quality and Gold Environmental Certification

Vakinn is the official quality and environmental certification for Icelandic tourism, run by the Icelandic Tourist Board. Icelandia is Vakinn certified and holds the Gold environmental rating, the highest of Vakinn's three environmental levels. Certified companies are independently audited against criteria covering:

  • Website and customer information
  • Management and staff
  • Safety and hygiene
  • Environmental practice

ISO 14001 Environmental Management

Our environmental management system is certified to ISO 14001, the international standard for environmental management, by BSI (British Standards Institution). Reykjavík Excursions was first certified in 2012, making it the first tourism company in Iceland to receive ISO 14001 certification from BSI.

The standard sits at the core of our Environmental Policy, from fleet renewal and driver training to reducing waste and sorting for recycling.

Equal Pay Certification

Icelandia holds Iceland's official Equal Pay Certification for 2024–2027, based on the ÍST 85 equal pay standard. In 2013, Reykjavík Excursions became the first tourism company in Iceland to receive equal pay certification. Read our Equal Pay Policy.

USTOA Associate Member

Icelandia is an Associate Member of the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA), which connects us with leading North American tour operators who bring travellers to Iceland.
