Create your own Icelandic journey. Experience untamed wilderness, vibrant landscapes, and unforgettable hikes.

The highlands are spectacular. If you’ve seen a picture of multi-coloured mountains in what seems to be a vast, remote wilderness in Iceland, it’s probably from Landmannalaugar. This region of Iceland is a hiker’s paradise, with hiking trails along rhyolite mountains, natural geothermal hot springs and wide-open spaces. If you are planning to hike Landmannalaugar and/or the Laugavegur Trail, leave the driving to us and hop on the highland bus!

Landmannalaugar offers travellers the classic Icelandic combo of stunning beauty and a chance to connect with nature in what feels like the middle of nowhere. If you want to enjoy epic landscapes, well-marked hiking trails, and a truly unique atmosphere, visit Landmannalaugar.

Landmannalaugar isn’t just popular for its unique beauty; it is also the start or finish of one of Iceland’s most popular hiking trails, Laugavegur. The Laugavegur trail is a 55 km hike to the lush green wonderland of Þórsmörk. Depending on your pace, it takes 3-4 days and is highly recommended if hiking is your thing. If not, you can always appreciate the stunning surroundings of Landmannalaugar and bathe in a natural hot spring.

Icelandic highland roads are often dirt tracks or gravel roads and can be pretty tricky to navigate. The road to Landmannalaugar is no exception and is not accessible to regular vehicles. Reykjavik Excursions operates specialised highland buses with professional drivers who easily navigate these roads. The Highland Bus runs daily* between Reykjavik and Skógar/Þórsmörk/Landmannalaugar to serve the nature-loving hikers and travellers that frequent these parts. Let us drop you off and pick you up so you can explore Iceland on your own.
