Expect a 2-hour drive from Reykjavík, a 1.5-hour glacier hike, and some sightseeing along the south coast and back to Reykjavík.

About this tour

Walking on a glacier is the best way to experience the unique geology of Iceland. This isn't something you can do just anywhere! An expert, professional guide will lead you on an easy and informative glacier walk on Sólheimajökull Glacier.

After departing on a bus from Reykjavík, you will be driven for two hours and will meet your certified glacier guide at the Sólheimajökull Base Camp by Sólheimajökull glacier. Guests will be fitted with the appropriate gear (crampons, an ice axe and harness), and you will be briefed about safety and then head off for your glacier walk.

Your certified glacier guide takes you through a frozen wonderland of different tones and shapes of glacier ice. The spectacular colours of the ice can be white, blue or crystal clear.

You will safely view deep crevasses and water cauldrons and have plenty of photo opportunities. Additionally, your expert guide will share their knowledge about the ever-changing landscapes of the Icelandic glaciers, how they form and how these icy giants are connected with the surrounding volcanoes and mountains.

No technical skills are required for this tour, and you will be provided with all the necessary equipment for the glacier walk. This is a great way to experience an Icelandic glacier safely in a short amount of time.

After the glacier walk, you will be picked up by the bus and do some sightseeing! You will stop by the iconic Skógafoss, a dramatic waterfall and one of the biggest in the country, as it stands 82 feet high and has a drop-off of nearly 200 feet!

After exploring Skógafoss, the bus drives to Seljalandsfoss, a beautiful waterfall with a thin stream plunging metres below; what makes Seljalandsfoss unique is the ability to walk behind the falls on a footpath. It's a memorable experience, but it can get a little wet. It's recommended to bring a waterproof jacket along if you want to walk behind it.

Then it's on to Reykjavík, where the tour ends, and you have lovely memories of your south coast adventure!
