Sólheimajökull Glacier Hike and Ice Cave Exploration

Sólheimajökull Glacier Hike & Hidden Blue Ice Cave

4 hoursLanguages: English

Join us for an unforgettable trek on Sólheimajökull, where the highlight is a journey into a recently discovered ice cave shimmering with shades of blue.

Your adventure begins at the Icelandic Mountain Guides Base Camp by the glacier’s edge. Here, your guide outfits you with all the essential glacier gear – including crampons, a helmet, a harness, and an ice axe – before giving a short introduction.

Once ready, the group sets out across the glacier, weaving through dramatic ice ridges, deep crevasses, and ever-changing frozen landscapes. Along the way, your expert guide will share fascinating insights into the glacier’s unique features and the powerful forces that shape it.

The experience reaches its peak inside the newly revealed ice cave — a natural wonder carved by summer meltwater, leaving behind a sparkling, crystal-blue tunnel. You’ll have time to take in its beauty before hiking back across the glacier to Base Camp, where your adventure began.

We will then arrive at a new beautiful blue ice cave and, literally, head into the glacier. The cave is naturally formed by the movement of meltwater in the summer, that has left a stunningly crystal blue tunnel behind. You will spend enough time in the cave to fully take in your surroundings, before heading back over the glacier to the Base Camp, where your hike started.
